Olympic Champion Wu Minxia Named Public Welfare Ambassador for "Emergency Youth" to Launch a New Journey of Youth Emergency Safety Education
Invited by Emergency General Hospital (National Research Center for Emergency Medicine), Olympic diving champion Wu Minxia has taken on the role of Public Welfare Ambassador for the "Emergency Youth" initiative. On August 11, the appointment ceremony was held at the R&D, Education and Training Base of the National Center for Emergency Medical Research. The event was attended by Wu Minxia herself, representatives from the National Center for Emergency Medical Research, the Career Development Center of the Red Cross Society of China, the Administrative Committee of the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone, as well as representatives of the "Emergency Youth" program. Wu Minxia was once the leading figure of the Chinese Diving Team. Since the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, she has represented China in Olympic diving events for four consecutive editions, winning a total of 5 Olympic gold medals, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal, making her one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the Chinese Diving Team. She participated in the "Big Three World Diving Events" (the Olympic Games, FINA World Cup and FINA World Championships) 20 times in a row, securing 20 world-class gold medals and 32 medals throughout her career. She repeatedly set new world records in the women's 3m springboard individual and synchronized events, maintaining a world-class competitive standard. Her sportsmanship of "perseverance and pursuit of excellence" is highly aligned with the philosophy of the "Emergency Youth" initiative, which advocates staying calm in the face of danger and responding scientifically. The ceremony was hosted by Liu Xiaochuan, Vice President of Emergency General Hospital. At the ceremony, Ambassador Wu Minxia stated that as a mother of two children, she is deeply aware of the importance of safety for children and hopes to provide them with adequate care and guidance. Going forward, she will leverage her positive sportsmanship to actively promote the initiative, guide young people to learn proper emergency first-aid knowledge, and contribute to building a safer and better future. The participating representatives conducted in-depth exchanges on the event. Wu Di, Director of the National Research Center for Emergency Medicine and President of Emergency General Hospital, stated that as the future of the nation, young people receiving systematic emergency education and enhancing their self-rescue and mutual-rescue capabilities constitute a key component of improving the whole nation’s emergency and safety literacy and realizing the national rejuvenation dream. Zhang Xudong from the Career Development Center of the Red Cross Society of China noted that the exemplary role of public figures such as Olympic champions enables young people to understand the profound significance of emergency care while internalizing the spirit of striving for excellence, and to foster awareness of life safety from an early age. Leng Yanbing, Leader of the Administrative Committee of the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone, commented that "Emergency Youth" serves as an important platform for advancing international emergency medical exchanges under the SCO framework, which will surely promote the sharing and development of international emergency education experience. Following the exchange meeting, a signing and letter of appointment presentation ceremony was held. Ambassador Wu Minxia signed a series of "Emergency Youth" cultural and creative products as a souvenir, and interacted with the young participants who were taking part in the "Emergency Youth" activities.

China-SCO "Emergency Youth" Training Camp Successfully Concludes, Winning Praise from Officials of Multiple Countries
On July 19, the "Emergency Youth" Youth Emergency Medical Training Camp, hosted by the China-SCO Collaborative Center for Emergency Medical Rescue of Emergency Relief Departments (Emergency General Hospital) and co-organized by the Administrative Committee of the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone, concluded in Qingdao. Nearly 30 young representatives from SCO member states successfully completed all the camp activities and were awarded completion certificates personally presented by Ambassador Yerimbekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The "Emergency Youth" initiative is a series of activities launched by Emergency General Hospital in 2024, designed to enhance young people’s life safety capabilities. As the first youth emergency medical education program under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), this training camp, supported by the Asian Cooperation Fund, carefully designed a variety of theme-based study tours centered on emergency medicine. During the camp, the young participants visited the China International Air Medical Rescue Base and the Qingdao Air Traffic Control Center, where they observed helicopter medical evacuation procedures up close, tried their hands at operating rescue equipment, learned about air traffic control command, and experienced the allure of aviation medicine in a comprehensive manner. At Ocean University of China, they toured the Marine Biology Museum and studied the medicinal value of marine organisms. At the Qingdao SCO Pearl International Expo Center, they learned about the cultures of various SCO member states, fostering cross-civilization exchanges and mutual learning. Visits to the China Science and Technology Museum and the Qingdao Naval Museum, among other venues, ensured that the young participants gained substantial knowledge and experience from every stop of the journey. In particular, at the Qingdao Aviation Base, drawing on the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques they had learned earlier, the young participants collaborated with instructors from the Jiaozhou Red Cross Society to deliver emergency care awareness sessions targeted at flight personnel. This event received strong support from the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Janesh Kain, Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO, and Cao Jie, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Emergency General Hospital, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. On July 18, Ambassador Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the SCO, presented certificates to the young participants and posed for group photos with them, speaking highly of the practical significance of the training camp. He pointed out that the SCO has always attached great importance to youth development. The "Emergency Youth" program has not only enhanced the participants’ self-rescue and mutual-rescue capabilities, but also sown the seeds of solidarity and collaboration in the hearts of the younger generation, injecting sustained impetusthe SCO’s cooperation in the emergency response field. This event brought the young participants a wealth of interesting knowledge, challenging experiences, like-minded partners, and the motivation for growth driven by innovation and progress. The teenagers have expressed their insights on the training camp through writing lettersrecording videos. After the closing of the camp, officials from various countries accredited to China expressed their gratitude to the organizers. An official from the SCO Secretariat stated: "We extend our sincere gratitude to all Chinese friends who made this wonderful journey possible. The skills and knowledge acquired by the young people will become valuable assets for their future endeavors, and we especially appreciate the care and attention given to the campers by all parties." An official from Pakistan accredited to China commented: "This event perfectly combines learning with fun. The children shared cultures and built friendships through communication. Such diverse experiences are an invaluable gift, and we are deeply grateful for this!" An official from Uzbekistan accredited to China emphasized: "We thank the organizers, volunteers and translators for their hard work. The children have not only mastered first-aid skills, but also established cross-border friendships. The educational significance and wonderful experiences of the summer camp will become unforgettable memories for them throughout their lives." SCO Secretary-General Yeremekbayev Attends China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference
From July 17 to 18, 2025, Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), attended the opening ceremony of the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference in Qingdao. The conference was held at the Qingdao SCODA Pearl International Expo Center (known as the "SCO Pearl" International Expo Center) and hosted by the People's Government of Shandong Province. Zhou Naixiang, Governor of Shandong Province, delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. In his speech, Yeremekbayev introduced the goals, achievements and next-step plans of the SCO in economic and trade cooperation. He stated that the SCO will further fully leverage the resources of relevant demonstration zones, border cooperation centers, transportation and logistics hubs, exhibition platforms and non-governmental organizations within the territory of member states to tap the enormous potential for economic and trade cooperation of the organization. Yeremekbayev specifically pointed out that the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Qingdao has played an important constructive role in promoting economic and trade cooperation among SCO countries and strengthening ties between local governments and the business community of various countries. Envoys to China, local government leaders, representatives of legislative bodies, as well as representatives of enterprises and think tanks from countries of the "SCO Community" such as Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Cambodia attended the opening ceremony of the conference. During the opening ceremony, the Qingdao Initiative of the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference was released. During his attendance at the conference, Yeremekbayev also participated in the opening ceremony of the 2025 UAE Arabian Horse Global Cup (China Leg) co-hosted by the China Horse Industry Association and its UAE partners at the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone. Additionally, Yeremekbayev awarded certificates to the student representatives of the SCO-China "Emergency Youth" Adolescent Emergency Medical Training Camp. This event was co-organized by the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone and the China-SCO Emergency Medical Rescue Cooperation Center for Emergency Relief Departments. During his stay in Qingdao, Yeremekbayev also accepted interviews with several Chinese central and local media outlets. He shared his impressions of attending the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference, his views on the economic and social development of Shandong Province and Qingdao City, as well as his prospects for the local region to further participate in sub-national cooperation within the SCO framework.

Jointly Advancing the Healthy Silk Road and Exploring Heavy Ion Technology — An In-depth Inspection Tour of Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Supplies Management Seminar for "Belt and Road" Countries On July 16, over 30 participants of the Emergency Medical Rescue Supplies Management Seminar, hailing from "Belt and Road" partner countries including Bulgaria, the Gambia, Grenada, Pakistan, Nigeria and Suriname, paid a special visit to the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital. They conducted an in-depth inspection of this world-leading hub for tumor radiotherapy technology. The visit aimed to boost exchanges and cooperation among "Belt and Road" co-building countries in the fields of emergency medical rescue and high-end medical technologies, and jointly draw a new blueprint for the Healthy Silk Road. The delegation was warmly received by the hospital. Accompanied by Qi Ying, Vice President of the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center, and representatives of the radiotherapy team, the foreign guests toured core areas including the heavy ion therapy rooms and physics planning rooms, observing the operation procedures of cutting-edge equipment up close. Vice President Qi provided a detailed briefing on the unique physical and biological advantages of heavy ion beam therapy for tumors, as well as the revolutionary breakthroughs this technology has achieved in precisely targeting deep-seated tumors while protecting surrounding healthy tissues. Representatives from various countries spoke highly of the center’s world-leading technical standards and large-scale clinical application capabilities. A participating delegate commented: "This visit has been truly eye-opening! Heavy ion technology represents the future direction of tumor treatment. The practices of Wuwei Cancer Hospital have set an outstanding benchmark for developing countries to enhance their cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities." After five years of forging ahead, the Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has continuously made breakthroughs in technological innovation, achieving numerous "world-first" milestones. It is the only hospital in the world operating two heavy ion therapy systems. With the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center under its operation, a powerful pattern of dual-center synergy has been formed, greatly enhancing the capacity and reach of heavy ion therapy. As an important national demonstration base for heavy ion technology, the center has always adhered to the concept of openness and sharing. China Red Cross Emergency General Hospital & ICRC Hold Talks to Deepen Humanitarian Cooperation
On the afternoon of June 19, Liu Xiaochuan, Vice President of Emergency General Hospital, received a delegation of five members from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation for East Asia at the R&D, Education and Training Base of the National Research Center for Emergency Medicine. The delegation included Boris Kelecevic, Deputy Head of the ICRC Delegation for East Asia, Cheryl Katzmarzyk, Regional Head of Forensic Services, and Hussain Al-Dahwi, Head of Medical Cooperation and Policy Department. Both sides held in-depth exchanges on cooperation matters in fields such as the handling of victims' remains and international humanitarian law. Liu Zhi, Director of the Red Cross Office of Emergency General Hospital, attended the talks. In September 2022, Emergency General Hospital was officially named "Red Cross Emergency General Hospital of China" by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) and awarded the flag of the "Chinese Red Cross Rescue Corps". Since its naming, the hospital has been practicing the Red Cross spirit in diverse dimensions and deepening international humanitarian cooperation. It has achieved fruitful results in the field of emergency rescue, actively participating in missions such as "Emergency Mission·2024" and the 1st National Red Cross Rescue Team Competition; it has spread the Red Cross spirit by collaborating with Red Cross organizations to train over 4,000 Chinese and foreign participants; it has co-organized Red Cross first-aid competitions, expanding the scope of such events and hosting new competition items; it has carried out international cooperation, with initiatives including "Emergency Red Rose" and "Emergency Youth" garnering extensive support and their outcomes being incorporatedthe Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation mechanism. The visit by the delegation from the ICRC Delegation for East Asia once again demonstrates the shared resolve and concrete actions of both sides to uphold the Red Cross spirit and jointly advance the development of humanitarian causes. The two sides reviewed their previous cooperation. Ms. Cheryl Katzmarzyk expressed her sincere appreciation and delight for the various training programs that Emergency General Hospital has conducted since 2019 in the field of knowledge dissemination related to the handling of victims' remains. She also noted her eagerness to gain a deeper understanding of China’s cultural traditions and customs, to inform and integratethe ICRC’s relevant future work. During the talks, both Vice President Liu Xiaochuan and Deputy Head Boris expressed full confidence in future cooperation. The two sides stated that they will continue to deepen collaboration in knowledge dissemination and training, life safety capacity building, project development, as well as exhibition and demonstration. They look forward to conducting more professional and multi-level exchanges and cooperation in the future, on the premise of gaining a deeper understanding of the needs of frontline emergency responders. In response to the initiative of 2025 as the SCO Year of Sustainable Development, the China-SCO Emergency Medicine Rescue Cooperation Center for Emergency Disaster Relief Departments will actively act on the call, focus on boosting development momentum and drive innovations. It plans to promote the rapid translation and application of emerging technologiesemergency rescue practices and occupational safety protection for emergency responders by establishing expert pools and launching special projects; continue to strengthen life safety training and steadily improve the emergency response capacity for life safety among all population groups; organize the 2025 International Forum on Emergency Medicine Rescue and the Expo on Emergency Medical Equipment and Technology, deepen regional technological innovation and industrial capacity cooperation. Through these pragmatic efforts, the Center will fully implement the Eight Major Initiatives for High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation, and support the development of the international cooperation mechanism for natural disaster prevention and control and emergency management under the Belt and Road Initiative.
