Jointly Advancing the Healthy Silk Road and Exploring Heavy Ion Technology — An In-depth Inspection Tour of Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Supplies Management Seminar for "Belt and Road" Countries
On July 16, over 30 participants of the Emergency Medical Rescue Supplies Management Seminar, hailing from "Belt and Road" partner countries including Bulgaria, the Gambia, Grenada, Pakistan, Nigeria and Suriname, paid a special visit to the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center of Wuwei Cancer Hospital. They conducted an in-depth inspection of this world-leading hub for tumor radiotherapy technology.
The visit aimed to boost exchanges and cooperation among "Belt and Road" co-building countries in the fields of emergency medical rescue and high-end medical technologies, and jointly draw a new blueprint for the Healthy Silk Road.
The delegation was warmly received by the hospital. Accompanied by Qi Ying, Vice President of the Lanzhou Heavy Ion Center, and representatives of the radiotherapy team, the foreign guests toured core areas including the heavy ion therapy rooms and physics planning rooms, observing the operation procedures of cutting-edge equipment up close. Vice President Qi provided a detailed briefing on the unique physical and biological advantages of heavy ion beam therapy for tumors, as well as the revolutionary breakthroughs this technology has achieved in precisely targeting deep-seated tumors while protecting surrounding healthy tissues.
Representatives from various countries spoke highly of the center’s world-leading technical standards and large-scale clinical application capabilities. A participating delegate commented: "This visit has been truly eye-opening! Heavy ion technology represents the future direction of tumor treatment. We earnestly look forward to introducing this ‘healthcare boon’ to our own countries and benefiting more patients. The practices of Wuwei Cancer Hospital have set an outstanding benchmark for developing countries to enhance their cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities."
After five years of forging ahead, the Heavy Ion Center of Gansu Wuwei Cancer Hospital has continuously made breakthroughs in technological innovation, achieving numerous "world-first" milestones. It is the only hospital in the world operating two heavy ion therapy systems.
