Emergency General Hospital

Emergency General Hospital is a public welfare institution of the second category under the Ministry of Emergency Management. It was established in 1993 and is a tertiary general hospital. Formerly known as Coal General Hospital, it is a Class A medical insurance designated institution in Beijing, a teaching hospital of PekingMedical College and North China University of Science and Technology, a designated hospital for work-related injury insurance in Beijing, and a designated hospital for work-related injury rehabilitation. After the institutional reform in 2018, the central government, with an eye on enhancing the national emergency rescue capacity and comprehensively strengthening the emergency system, agreed to retain Coal General Hospital under the management of the Ministry of Emergency Management and rename it Emergency General Hospital. As the only hospital directly under a ministry among the 26 constituent departments of the State Council (excluding hospitals under the National Health Commission), Emergency General Hospital has always adhered to the public welfare nature of public hospitals, shouldering the mission of safeguarding the lives and health of the people in the capital, and undertaking the responsibilities of medical rescue for major domestic disasters and accidents, as well as cross-border (international) rescue medical assistance. 

In October 2021, with the approval of the Ministry of Emergency Management and the National Health Commission, the National Emergency Medical Research Center was established based on the Emergency General Hospital. It aims to build an emergency medical discipline system integrating medical treatment, teaching, research, rescue and transformation, and undertake responsibilities such as emergency medical rescue, emergency medical resource reserves, international medical rescue, emergency medical research and talent cultivation. 

In September 2022, with the approval of the Ministry of Emergency Management and the National Health Commission, the National Pneumoconiosis Diagnosis and Treatment Center was established based on the Emergency General Hospital. It aims to integrate the prevention, monitoring, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of pneumoconiosis, promote the all-round development of medical care, teaching, research and transformation, carry out clinical diagnosis and treatment and medical basic research on pneumoconiosis, establish an expert database for the diagnosis and treatment of pneumoconiosis, study prevention and treatment technical norms, build a national pneumoconiosis diagnosis and treatment network platform, and establish a pneumoconiosis prevention and treatment assistance mechanism. 

In September 2022, the Red Cross Society of China designated the hospital as the China Red Cross Emergency General Hospital and the China Red Cross Rescue Corps. 

The hospital currently has "one hospital with three campuses". The main campus is located in Xiangheyuan, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The East Campus is in Maizidian Sub-district, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The North Campus is in Zhengtong Creative Center, Chaoyang District, Beijing. There are over 1,000 employees, including 216 experts with associate senior professional titlesabove. Eight experts enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council.

The hospital has 46 medical and technical clinical departments. Its specialties such as emergency rescue, burn and plastic surgery, respiratory critical care, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, trauma surgery, hemodialysis, and pneumoconiosis have strong advantages. In terms of the construction of critical care disciplines, it has deepened cooperation with Beijing 120 and established three pre-hospital emergency workstations, receiving an average of 400 patients per month. It has opened a seamless connection green channel between pre-hospital and in-hospital care and increased the application of "5G + emergency rescue", becoming one of the hospitals in Beijing that receive the most emergency patients. The hospital's bronchoscopy interventional treatment is at the forefront of domestic specialized medical technology. It performs nearly 5,000 respiratory critical care bronchoscopy surgeries annually, with the highest surgical volume in the country. 

The hospital now possesses a variety of high-end medical equipment, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, CT scanners, digital subtraction angiography machines, high-definition fluorescence laparoscopes, 3D laparoscopes, mobile CTs, mobile cabin CTs, and intelligent mobile rescue devices. It is vigorously promoting the construction of a research-oriented hospital, jointly establishing the National Key Laboratory of Emergency and Disaster Rescue Medicine with the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, and has the key laboratory of the Ministry of Emergency Management "Key Technologies and Equipment for Medical Rescue". It has also established a professional technology transformation and emergency medical research and innovation platform, and has led multiple provincial and ministerial-level key research projects. 

The hospital is committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities and the mission of emergency rescue, undertaking the national emergency medical rescue duties. In September 2018, in accordance with the deployment of the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Emergency General Hospital, the Beijing Fire and Rescue Corps, and the China Earthquake Search and Rescue Center formed the China Rescue Team, which passed the assessment of the United Nations International Heavy Rescue Team, making China the first country in Asia to have two international heavy rescue teams certified by the United Nations. It has accomplished numerous major rescue and major exercise tasks with excellence. It has actively participated in nucleic acid sampling, vaccination, and the construction of makeshift hospitals in Beijing, as well as in the support for Tibet and other epidemic prevention and control efforts. It has successfully completed the medical service guarantee tasks for a series of major events such as the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the Beijing Winter Paralympics. It successfully held the first International Emergency Medical Rescue Forum and Emergency Medical Rescue Equipment and Technology Expo, and established the National Emergency Medical Rescue Alliance, which has attracted high attention and enthusiastic responses. 

The hospital adheres to and strengthens the Party's overall leadership over all its work, strictly governs the Party in an all-round way, continuously enhances the construction of grassroots Party organizations, vigorously promotes the in-depth integration of Party building and medical work, and constantly improves the levels of both Party building and medical work. It has been honored with titles such as the Central and State Organs Civilized Unit, the National "March 8th Red Flag" Unit, the Capital Health System Civilized Unit, and the Advanced Collective of the Beijing Health System on multiple occasions, and has been commended and awarded by the Ministry of Emergency Management for its outstanding performance. 

Standing at a new starting point of development, the Party Committee of the Emergency General Hospital will, under the strong leadership of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Emergency Management, focus on the goal of building a leading national and well-known emergency characteristic large-scale modern comprehensive hospital. In accordance with the overall work approach of "1234567", it will vigorously implement seven major strategies, continuously improve the quality and level of medical services, and make new contributions to safeguarding the lives and health of the people, promoting the modernization of the emergency management system and capacity, and advancing the construction of Healthy China!
